Another good day at Pattaya Fishing Park. The day’s catch for me was 11 Mekong giant catfish. I also broke some 38lb line hauling in another decent sized fish. One of the Thais fishing next to me pulled out a striped catfish of about 12-13Kg (the only striped catfish I’ve seen at PFP) and one of the Brits fishing there landed the Mekong giant pictured below. Best guess at it’s weight was 45-50Kg.
First cast I caught a very nice striped catfish of about 8Kg, a second came about 5 minutes later, followed shortly after by another one of about 9Kg. In the first 45 minutes I had reeled in four striped catfish. Then nothing, not even a nibble for the next four hours ????
After seeing nearly a ton of tilapia being stocked into the lake last week we thought it might be a good time to catch some. Most of the successful Thais were using earthworms or small live freshwater shrimps. The guy next to me seemed to be doing very well fishing on the bottom with a feeder loaded with tilapia bait and two hooks loaded with earthworms. I built a similar rig but with just one size 8 hook. Unfortunately the tilapia didn’t find my worms, shrimps or bait mix very appetising. After five hours all I caught was two striped catfish, not even one tilapia 🙁
It was a very slow day yesterday. We had four hours at Baetong and between three of us we landed one striped catfish. There were 17 rods fishing and I only saw about 10 fish pulled out in the entire 4 hour session. One guy near us caught two using some bait flavouring.
