Friday 12th December, another day, possibly my last at Pattaya Fishing Park as they have hiked the price for foreigners by 50% to ฿1,200. It was a busy day with around 15 other rods in the water and quite a few line tangles. It appears they have stocked up with striped catfish as there were quite a few more caught than I have seen before. I ended the day with 4 striped catfish and 10 Mekongs, the largest approximately 25kg. One of my friends caught two decent Mekong giant catfish, one of around 40kg and one of around 30kg. Another friend caught the very nice Mekong pictured below that tipped the scales at 47kg.
Friday November 7th 2014. Another marathon day at Pattaya Fishing Park. The water level has risen by at least 50cm since my last visit due to the recent rains but it’s still about 70cm below full. Despite some rain and a thunderstorm this was my best day yet at PFP, I landed 28 Mekongs, the largest weighing in at 39.4kg with a second tipping the scales at 32kg.
Following some rain in the morning it was a slow day at Pattaya fishing Park. I landed one striped catfish of about 10Kg and 11 Mekongs the largest of which was about 25Kg, this was the largest fish to come out all day. PFP was the busiest I have seen it since high season, at one point I counted 15 rods in the water, they must have had 25 or more customers over the course of the day.
Another marathon day at Pattaya Fishing Park with 18 Mekong giant catfish landed, 3 of which were around the 20-25kg mark and one of 25-30kg. I could have had more if it wasn’t for line breakages. Seems 45lb line still isn’t strong enough for these big fish. I’ve never seen PFP fish as fast as it did today, I’m guessing because it’s low season in Pattaya the fish are getting rather hungry.
Another good day at Pattaya Fishing Park. The day’s catch for me was 11 Mekong giant catfish. I also broke some 38lb line hauling in another decent sized fish. One of the Thais fishing next to me pulled out a striped catfish of about 12-13Kg (the only striped catfish I’ve seen at PFP) and one of the Brits fishing there landed the Mekong giant pictured below. Best guess at it’s weight was 45-50Kg.
