Mountain View on Thursday

Mountain View Fishing Park
Mountain View Fishing Park

Another great days fishing at Mountain View. My targets for the day were a pacu for the barbecue and a Mekong catfish on light tackle. I started off with four striped catfish, all around the 4kg mark. Mid afternoon I hooked a pacu, just what I wanted, it weighed in at 2.65kg. A bit big for the barbecue, I ended up filleting it. It’s sizzling in the frying pan now as I type this. A friend caught the marble goby pictured below, these are highly prized as a food fish in Thailand although I have never eaten one. I ended the day with a few more striped catfish.

Pattaya Arapaima Park 6th August 2016

A great first day’s fishing for me at Pattaya Arapaima Park. The first fish landed was an arapaima of around 25kg. It put up a great fight for about ten minutes rising out of the water shaking it’s head. Unfortunately we were unable to get a good photograph of it. The next 3 fish were all small walking catfish. I also landed a small Mekong catfish. Just as I was about to pack up in the evening I hooked into another walking catfish. This one put up a good fight and weighed in at just over 4kg.

A good day at Castaway

Alligator gar

I started the day about 10am and using my own tackle fished 2 predator rods. Using chicken hearts for bait I quickly hooked and landed a pacu of around 2kg. The fish kept coming in steadily, Amazon red tails, then an alligator gar and striped catfish. With its comfy seating and shaded areas under the trees this park is a very pleasant and comfortable place to spend the day.  With many fish heading straight for cover I lost 3 fish to the water hyacinth. Total for the day, 3 striped catfish (largest around 3kg), 6 Amazon red tail catfish (3kg), 4 alligator gar (1.5kg) and 3 pacu (2kg). The arapaima remained elusive despite by best efforts. A friend who was also fishing landed a Siamese carp of around 15kg. The fishing may have been slowed due to the cold weather, the temperature dropped below 20 deg C the night before I visited.

At 4pm his fish dead bait was picked up and a 20 minute battle had begun. The result was another lake record 1.35m arapaima (pictured above). Another San Miguel beer was sunk and a few more fish caught into the evening.
